Yesterday I learned just how good a 7 digit dialplan can be. Yes, I said 7. I was quite amazed at how easily one can be instituted, and designed. I’ve always been a fan of 5 digit for large companies, but I never thought I’d actually agree to do 7.

I kind of made the jump from 4 digit dialplan to 10 digit dialplan. I kind of cringed at the thought of a 10 digit dial plan originally but after setting up my thoughts have changed.
A thought…if you always configure your dialplan to be 10 digits and then create translation patterns for 4 digit dialing, 5 digit dialing, etc you are covered in the event you have to change your dial plan. You don’t have to go back to re-assign new extensions to the phones, you can just change the translation patterns. Plus you get the added bonus of knowing your dial plan will never overlap…unless the NANP went to crap.
